Mary Dicke invites fairgoers to try their hand playing Blockbuster and perhaps take home a huge stuffed animal if they're either skillful or lucky at the Fryeburg Fair midway.
While Fryeburg maintains that small-town atmosphere, the town has become synonymous with the annual Fryeburg Fair. The eight-day agricultural fair grows every year - as do the crowds and the larger-than-life vegetables.
It's a popular fall excursion with superb fair food, live music and of course a midway. The Fryeburg Fair Web site has all the details.
During the rest of the year, enjoy a 15-minute hike to the "cap" of the Battle Monument or a leisurely stroll in the Main Street Historic District. For canoe lovers, Swan's Falls is a popular place to launch or camp.
